Cocaine Wars: Chalk One Up for the Mexican Army?
This is actually bigger news than most people realize — for many years, the Mexican military supported the country’s drug trade. Certainly, they made many “trophy” drug busts, but it was all for show.
In such a poor country, where a day’s wages are less than the minimum hourly wage north of the border, it’s no wonder the military and other government officials are lured to the lucrative cocaine business.
Is it changing? Yes. But the change is slow. Best to take the news out of Mexico with a “grain of salt,” and certainly don’t be surprised as more news comes out about the U.S. government’s own involvement in the drug trade. It’s all smoke and mirrors in the middle of a blizzard…
